Camilla Westby

    Artist

I was born in the U.S and then raised in the U.K. and Scandinavia. I graduated from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) in the U.S. in 1996 and continue to explore the landscape and its ever-changing qualities, while observing the environment around me in the places where I have lived. Primarily in the U.S., Sweden, England, Spain and Costa Rica. Currently I am living in Hälsingland, Sweden. By experimenting with new materials, patterns and texture I wish to capture the aliveness of our surroundings and invite people to take a closer look.

Being raised in several countries by somewhat unconventional parents, has encouraged me to be independent in my thinking. I have been exposed to many different people and cultures. The need to express my fascination with nature, its texture, light and colors surfaced early on and art school became the obvious path, from which I have grown and evolved.

My paintings are primarily inspired by my closeness to Mother Nature, in my work as a gardener, and by experiencing new places. Being aware of the environment as a fragile entity, which we all are a part of, reinforces my desire to paint and nurture it, to capture some part of it, perhaps, and preserve it.

I have exhibited and sold my art work in Galleries in the U.S., Spain and Sweden. Currently I am reconnecting with my roots, busy in my studio and exploring the beautiful landscape in Sweden. I continue to pursue my dream.
